A Blessing and a Morning Prayer

Recently at Perfectly Imperfect, Yolanda shared this "Blessings award" together with a call for prayer for those affected by last week's tornados & an amazing Tribute from Union University. I encourage you to watch this video when time permits, offer up your own prayers, and pass the award and information on to readers at your own blog.

In 1994's

ILLUMINATA
Marianne Williamson shares
"Thoughts, Prayers, and Rites of Passage"
and this is one of my favorite
prayers for the morning.

"Dear God,
I give this day to You.
May my mind stay centered on the things of spirit.
May I not be tempted to stray from love.
As I begin this day, I open to receive You.
Please enter where You already abide.
May my mind and heart be pure and true,
and may I not deviate from the things of goodness.
May I see the love and innocence in all mankind,
behind the masks we all wear
and the illusions of this worldly plane.
I surrender to you my doings for this day.
I ask only that they serve You and the healing of the world.
May I bring Your love and goodness with me,
to give unto others wherever I go.
Make me the person You would have me be.
Direct my footsteps, and show me what you would have me do.
Make the world a safer, more beautiful place.
Bless all Your creatures.
Heal us all, and use me dear Lord,
that I might know the joy of being used by You.
Amen."

I do a shorten prayer that's similar to this. I learned it as the "doctor's prayer" - "Lord, let me be a blessing to those people I meet (serve, see) today."

I tagged you over at everyday-kindness.com!

Claudia – Thanks for sharing your shortened version. I’ve read your “Kind Fives” list and enjoyed learning a bit more about you. I think this meme is an interesting exercise … so I’ll give it some thought and let you know when I share my responses. Today I’m playing “catch up” with email and responses to comments on my blogs over the past few days, and I’ve promised Molly a trip to Dog Beach since she’s spent lots of time at home alone recently.

This was lovely and rang so true for me, spoke to me on so many levels.
I'm printing this one out to keep close at hand, offering my own prayers.

Michele – You’re certainly welcome. Thanks for visiting, expressing your gratitude, and leaving your smiles.

Bella – I’m always enriched when I visit your blog and read your amazing posts, so I’m delighted to share something that “resonates” with you enough to print out to keep close at hand as you offer your own prayers. I so believe that the world needs our heart-felt prayers every day, and I’m convinced prayer does change things.

A beautiful prayer...thank you.

Karen – You’re quite welcome. I’ve been thinking of sharing a bit more from Marianne Williamson’s ILLUMINATA from time to time. She has an interesting perspective on the power of (and need for) daily prayers.

I found your blog a while ago, and I have been remiss to come back and leave a comment. Perusing your past posts, I found this one, and I was so happy to see it. I used to say that prayer to myself almost everyday. Thanks for bringing me back to an old friend.

Shelli – I’m happy I could do so. Marianne’s prayers speak to my heart and soul … and there’s something wonderful about realizing others might be praying right along with me.

Thanks for returning and leaving me a comment so I could find you. I’ve explored your blog briefly this morning and tried to leave a comment there, but was rejected repeatedly by the “code” feature … so I’ve returned here to respond. Hmm … and as I type this, I seem to recall you gave your email somewhere on your blog. So when I finish here I’ll return to see if I can find it.

I’m delighted to make your acquaintance … and may decide to “tag” myself now that I’ve read your responses to MPJs “get-acquainted” meme … although my whole life is laid out in “101 Things About Me” ... (the link is in the About Me section of my sidebar). If/when I do so, I’ll let you know.
Hugs and blessings,
