BYBS#11 and Sacred Life Sunday

If you're looking for One Single Impression Week 21
you'll find one here and the other here.
My 'catch up' OSI post is still
under construction.
Irish Coffeehouse is hosting Fun Monday and asks three questions: "As a child day dreaming of what your future would hold for you, what did you want to be when you grew up? Did you ever pursue or achieve it? If you could be trained and placed in any career beginning tomorrow, what would it be?"

I've pondered these questions for several days and still don't know how to respond to any of them, however today I'm grateful for the encouragement and support coming into my life from many directions and unexpected sources ... a myriad of messages inviting me to embrace my uniquenesses, explore my creativity, follow my heart and pursue my dreams. These were not the kinds of messages I received as a child ... nor are they easy for me to accept ... in fact, the more familiar messages (that still play in my mind) are:
'Don't be silly, you don't think (or feel) that at all.'
'Shape up ... think and be practical.'
'That's just a pipe dream ... it will never amount to anything.'

In today's weekly phone call with my writing buddy, we mutually agreed to 'gather our art supplies together' and have them 'handy' in case inspiration comes ... and that's what I plan to do this week. Interestingly, as I whittled down the collection of email messages this afternoon (after visiting blogs in an attempt to catch up with folks I've been neglecting due to busy-ness), I came upon one from Mac Anderson of Simple Truths containing a link to a 3 minute video (that I've just watched twice) entitled Dreams are Whispers from the Soul together with encouragement to share it with others. Thus, I invite you click the link and view this inspirational reminder ... to listen to and live your dreams.

As for me, I'm still thinking about how to respond to the Fun Monday questions in tomorrow's post at Small Reflections while I work on the 'catch up OSI post' for Weeks 18, 19, and 20 ... wondering how it is that I've allowed my 'happily retired self' to get so overly busy these past few months and considering what to do differently in the days and weeks to come.

At the risk of commenting on the quote from Eleanor Roosevelt, that's a very interesting quote! It is my firm belief that dreams are very important --- anything planned is in essence a dream before it is made real.

These are provocative questions. Good food for thought here, Storyteller.

You are in a deep mood. :) It's great that you get encouragement from so many places and that you have painting plans. :)

I love every Eleanor quote I hear/read. She was one smart lady!

Keeping busy keeps one out of trouble! I have found that I am busier since I retired than when I was working for pay and I thought I was really busy then!

I can remember hearing those comments when I was growing up, too. The people who love/loved us want us to be happy and secure and, most of all, safe--the comments come from a place of fear, that if we're not practical, we won't be safe. I completely understand where it comes from and that it's usually motivated by love, BUT...I'm doing my best NOT to say these things to my own child. Dreams are good. Impractical is okay, too. We can't protect the people we love from all danger. We can't (and shouldn't) provide someone with a carefree life (after all, without cares, how can we grow?).
I'm learning to say "Why not?" And even beyond my own child--to my friends and other family, as well. It's incredibly easy to find some to discourage a hope/dream--I want to be the person that encourages, that helps find the way to make it work.

To all – I can’t believe it’s Friday evening already and I’ve not yet responded to your comments. I apologize and hope to do better next week now that I’m ‘on break’ from classes for a couple of weeks. Catching up here is a priority.

Whatever – I concur. In the words of Oscar Hammerstein (in ‘Happy Talk’) “… if you don’t have a dream, how you gonna have a dream come true?”

Sandy Carlson – I thought so too. Answering them last Monday at Small Reflections proved challenging, but I did my best. I do think it’s wise to consider such questions periodically.

Lisa – Yup … I guess I was in a deep mood. Sometimez it happens ;--)

Paulie – This is so true for me as well. Sometimes I wonder how I ever had time to work … seriously!!! LOL

Karen – Your point is right on about the desire of parents for our ‘safety’ … and I’m glad to know you’re making an effort to ‘release’ those fears where Nathan is concerned.

I appreciate ALL of you visiting and sharing your thoughts on my BYBS/SLS post. Hope you’ve had a wonderful week and that the weekend will be a pleasant one. If I've not returned the visit, I hope to do so tomorrow.
Hugs and blessings,
