According to the friend who shared this image with me, this is the rarest of all naturally occurring atmospheric phenomena. The picture was captured on the Idaho/Washington border in an event that lasted about an hour. Clouds have to be cirrus, at least 20K feet in altitude ... with just the right amount of ice crystals. The sun has to hit the clouds at precisely 58 degrees.
Thought for Today
"So often we try to gird ourselves to face a harsh and difficult world when we might instead gentle both ourselves and our world just by slowing down. ...We could take a cue from music here: 'Rest' is musical term for a pause between flurries of notes. Without that tiny pause, the torrent of notes can be overwhelming. Without a rest in our lives, the torrent of our lives can be the same" ~Julia Cameron

What a stunning picture! So rare and beautiful :) I love your quote today! I can relate to it so well this week. I hope you're having a lovely Sunday! Thanks so much for sharing that :)
This is beautiful! Thank you for sharing the photo. :)
Rest and humor--I've found that the two make life much more bearable, much more enjoyable.
Gorgeous photo!
Such a beautiful picture! I love your quote for today too.
Wow, that is amazing. I have never heard of that before.
I love your thought for the day. For the last few weeks I have been consciously trying to slow my life down. It has been amazing how much difference some gentleness makes.
Sandy – Your reaction mirrors my own when my friend sent this a while back. I thought others might enjoy it too … and you do ;--)
Joyce – You’re welcome and I’m happy you enjoyed it.
Karen – Ah yez … humor is definitely as essential as rest … in fact laughter is a restfully rejuvenating de-stressor, isn’t it? I could have added ‘laughter’ to my Meme Monday answer today, but didn’t think of it at the time.
MomOf3 – Seems like this picture and the quote are ‘on the mark’ this week for all of you! That’s very cool.
Yertle – The phenomenon was new to me as well. I trust the gal who sent it so I didn’t do any actual ‘research’ about it … just passed along the info she shared with me. I know what you mean about slowing down and being ‘gentle’ with our selves. I’ve often thought that no one has ever been as hard on me as I’ve been on myself … ever!
I appreciate each of you taking time to visit and share your thoughts here. Thank you so much. I hope you’re having a wonderful start to the week this Monday.
Hugs and blessings,
For anyone interested in more info, I found this on wikipedia.

Yertle – Thanks for sharing this link. I need to remind myself to use Google Search and/or Wikipedia more often for such things. It seldom occurs to me to do so until my brother-in-law calls from the road and asks me to look something up for him.
Hope you’re having a great day. As I type this, I’m wondering if you’ve shared the ‘Monday Meme’ from this morning’s post at Small Reflections … so maybe I’ll go check it out right now.
Hugs and blessings,

Thanks to both of you for visiting and sharing your thoughts. Have a delightful day!
